GETTING READY TO PLAY THE "GREEN DOOR" GAME
You'll need paper and pencil handy to write down clues as you try to find out what's behind the Green Door.

Also, your browser software must be "JavaScript enabled" to play this game. If you can see the current date and time displayed on the BHS-57 Home Page, JavaScript is already enabled. If you haven't done that yet, before continuing here, enable JavaScript by clicking a checkbox in your browser's Preferences. (For details, see Item 5, Enabling JavaScript, in Part 1 of the "Tips & Technical Info" section. Return here to start the game after you've enabled JavaScript.)

ABOUT THE GREEN DOOR GAME'S STORY LINE
In this game, many 1957 Classmates had moved away from Bellingham, and YOU were one of them. But, you are now moving to back in Bellingham to retire in your new home there - perhaps to fulfill your secret, lifelong, ambition - and also to make contact with former classmate friends.

Early in the game, you will review the "realized ambitions" (as taken from the 1957 Shuksan) of many former classmates. Of course, the "realized ambitions" part of this game is all PURE FANTASY. No research regarding the realization of any classmate's true ambition was done. (If you want reality, read the BHS-57 Reunion Memory Books). This game is "just for fun" - to remind you of the (some serious, some not) high school ambitions that we once had.

At the end of the game, if you have correctly played the game (gathered clues, etc.), you will know what's behind the Green Door - and, your own secret ambition MAY be revealed to you there.

GETTING STARTED
First, read this whole page about how to play the game below. After that, you begin playing the game by clicking once on the green "1. CODES" button (at the left, below). Don't start until you've read this whole page. (Then, you will not need to return to it during the game.)

Important: Each graphic image you click throughout the game requires a SINGLE click, not a double-click.

PART 1:   GATHERING CODES AND CLUES   This part of the game provides five large pictures (on five separate pages). Each page contains a variety of small graphics with some that are "clickable" (links). The graphic links pop-up pages of info for you to read. Some provide CODES or CLUES, while others just carry along the story. Among the small graphics, you should first locate the GOLD KEY which looks like this:
(You will find a gold key in each of the five PART 1 pictures.) When you find a gold key, click it once to get a pop-up window from which you will retrieve a four-digit CODE. Write down the (five) numeric CODES on your paper.

The first PART 1 picture shows many items (mountains, houses, apartment buildings, stores, barns, horses, trees, sculpture, etc.). Many of these are clickable images (some are not) that provide info on classmates' "realized" (in this game) high school ambitions. Find them all and read their pop-up info. See if you can pop-up an image with your name (and your classmate friends' names) as part of the Green Door game's story. (Also, see if you can find the pop-up photo of Bellingham Bay.)

Note: Some classmates put down NO ambition in the 1957 Shuksan. These people are not included in the game; nor were classmates who were deceased at the time of creating the game. A few other people with high school ambitions are not yet there, due to time limitations; they wlll be added in later updates.

Continue through PART 1, clicking other images on the four other pictures. Besides their gold key codes, you will find text CLUES that will later unlock secrets or allow you to pass into other areas in the later PARTS of this game. Write down all the Green Door CLUES on your paper.

Tip You can locate a "hidden" link on ANY web site by slowly rolling the mouse without holding down a button over a graphic; when the cursor changes to a "hand" pointer, it is then on a link.

Tip If you can't find PART 1's image links by watching your mouse rollovers, check the list at the bottom of each Part 1 page.

Tip If a known "image link" doesn't seem to work, click once anywhere OUTSIDE the picture area, then re-click the image link.

Tip As a last resort, RELOAD the page again using the browser's RELOAD button. (Still have problems? Send email to Marilyn.)

Remember, it is important to CLICK ONLY ONCE on an image link. A second click ("double-clicking") places the pop-up window behind the main window, so you won't see it (unless you move the main window to the right). Do not double-click.

CLOSE EACH POP-UP WINDOW when you're done reading its information. To close the window, single-click the provided Close Window button or click the small empty box in the upper left corner (Mac) or the small "X" box in the upper right corner (PC) of the pop-up window.

Continue through the game by clicking other image links in the picture to learn how the high school ambitions of BHS-57 classmates were fulfilled (pure fantasy, of course), and also to read about Otta Parte' and Aurielle - two fantasy people who are important characters in the Green Door game's story.

TIMING NOTE:   PART 1 of the game may take you up to an hour, depending on how long it takes you to read the information in the pop-up windows and write down the clues. (You do not have to complete PART 1 in one sitting; save your notes if you need to continue later.)

PART 2: GETTING WORDS   After you have completed PART 1, you can continue directly into PART 2. Or, you can stop after completing PART 1 and later come back here (to this entry page), and then go to PART 2 by clicking the green "2. WORDS" button at the left.

While playing PART 2, you will enter the five numeric CODES (that you gathered in PART 1), one at a time, to learn their corresponding SECRET WORDS. When the five words are returned to you, write them down on your paper. This ends PART 2.

TIMING NOTE:   Probably less than a minute.

PART 3: GETTING THE CLUE SENTENCE   After you have completed PART 2, you can continue directly into PART 3. Or, you can come back here (to this entry page) later, and then go to PART 3 by clicking the green "3. CLUE" button at the left.

In PART 3, you will put the five secret words into their correct places in a partially completed ("fill in the blanks") CLUE SENTENCE which tells you how to LOCATE THE GREEN DOOR. Write down the Clue Sentence on your paper. This ends PART 3.

TIMING NOTE:   Probably less than a minute.

Note: There are three more "PARTs" to the game, but there are no shortcut "green button" links at the left to them from here, because you must work your way through PARTs 1, 2, and 3 first. PART 3 lets you into Part 4, and so on. PARTs 4, 5, and 6 are described below, so you'll know what to expect.

PART 4: ENTRANCE TO THE GREEN DOOR   After you do what the PART 3 Clue Sentence says (clicking the secret link to the Green Door entrance), you are now in PART 4 "at the entrance to the Green Door." There, you pass a super-simple quiz by giving correct answers (using the CLUES you had collected earlier), which allows you to go "behind the Green Door" (i.e., get to PART 5) where you JOIN THE PARTY!

TIMING NOTE:   Probably a couple of minutes.

PART 5: BEHIND THE GREEN DOOR   A lot goes on in the PART 5 "rooms" behind the Green Door. For example, you might learn your deep-down, secret ambition if you visit the Life Coach Room. You might want to visit the Game Room just for fun, to play some short games and maybe to hear some old music on the jukebox (and sing along with it). And, be sure to visit the Gift Room where an "information" gift awaits you; this could inspire you to discover your long-forgotten (or newly formed) secret ambition.

TIMING NOTE:   Varies, depending on what you want to do there; could be some minutes.

Note:   You can quickly return here later via the Secret Shortcut you'll be given that takes you from the BHS-57 Home page directly to PART 5.

PART 6: EXITING THE GREEN DOOR   Finally, in PART 6, you will see a brief review of all the PART 5 "fun stuff" (perhaps you missed some and want to go back?) as well as a list of names and fairly recent pictures of some classmates who have gone "behind the green door" before you. If you want to be included there, you can use the PART 6 email link to send email (with a small JPG of your "head shot" picture attached) to the webmaster so you can be listed there with other BHS-57 classmates who have been "partying behind the Green Door."

TIMING NOTE:   Probably a couple of minutes.

ABOUT THE 50TH REUNION's DRAWING FOR THE "GREEN DOOR" PRIZE   Those persons who completed the Green Door game and "joined the party behind the Green Door" have their names listed in PART 6 of the game. If that and other "game completion requirements" was done by the July 15, 2007 deadline and if the contestants showed up at the BHS Class of 1957's 50th Reunion dinner on August 4, 2007, they were included in the special "Green Door game" drawing for a prize donated by the BHS-57 webmaster. The winner's name was drawn and the prize was awarded during the entertainment part of the reunion's "main" event.

Click the "gift" graphic at the left for a description of the 50th Reunion's Green Door prize and who won it - and also see what memories that prize brings back for YOU.

Note: You can visit PART 5 of the Green Door game as many times as you want, using a provided "shortcut" to get directly there. Time permitting, new "fun stuff" will be added behind the Green door (in PART 5); that shortcut will be useful then.

In the meantime, have you visited the "GYPSY GAL" section yet? (It's available on the BHS-57 Home Page, and may provide you with some brief entertainment.)
