ABOUT THIS SECTION
This section contains information shared by classmates who are currently already retired, or are planning retirement, perhaps researching their "best places to retire," or who have returned to work either part-time or fulltime, perhaps at a new career or a different kind of "fun" job. Maybe you know of some good web sites for retirees. PLEASE SHARE RETIREMENT INFORMATION. See the ideas given at the bottom of this page.

CONTENTS
Small pictures and "brief bits" are given below, in the order received. You'll enjoy reading the full articles with all the interesting information and several larger pictures shared by some or our retired classmates. You'll need to have Adobe Reader on your computer to open the PDf files avaIlable at some of the [More] links below - those with lots of text and photos. Other "More" links will use pop-up windows when less information (and no further photos) are given.

Note: If you don't know about PDF files yet, please go to the PDF file Downloads section and read the "About This Section" part there. The link to retrieve the free Adobe Reader from the adobe.com web site is given there. Return here after you have downloaded the free Adobe Reader.

Fred and Karen Norman Enjoying Retirement

Our retirement includes enjoying home and family life in Washington, gardening, fishing, working at the Puyallup Fair, and travel to visit family and friends in Oregon, California, and Florida. We also enjoy reunions of the USS Toledo (CA 133) crew in alternate locations across country (in South Carolina in 2004).

Chelle Marshell Nickerson

Chelle Marshall Nickerson Enjoying Retirement in Florida

We (classmate Chelle and hubby Bill Nickerson) moved to Dowling Park in northern Florida in October 1996. We live in a retirement village called the Advent Christian Village which is situated on the Suwannee River located in Suwannee County - in the middle of "nowhere."

PLEASE SHARE YOUR RETIREMENT INFORMATION
(For general details on sending any information and pictures for the BHS-57 web site, see the Send Items for Web Site section.) Basically, don't worry about your "writing style." Just write it the best you can. It can be a couple of paragraphs or about one page of text (up to 3 pages when 6 or 7 pictures are to be inserted.) See all the examples given above.

Send your information in an email to Marilyn who will check spelling and grammar, and perhaps cut it a bit to fit space. Then, she will let you read and approve the edited copy before she sends email to let all classmates know of the update to this section.

Want to include pictures? Email jpegs, if you can. (First, tell Marilyn in email how many jpegs you will be sending and ask how she wants to receive them - resolution, size, etc.) Otherwise, mail good color copies that needn't be returned (unless you enclose SASE) to:

Need ideas on what kind of information to share? Aside from the examples given by classmates above, some other ideas are noted below:

Your Retirement Life Style: Let us know how YOU handle retirement or how you are planning for a change of life style. Hopes, dreams, and wishes can be expressed, as well as travel tips. Your retirement information may inspire or help others. Your description can be as short as simply describing the projects you now have time to do, or it can be long - such as recapping a year's worth of travels. If retirement isn't all you'd hoped it would be, express that; it may let others who feel the same way know they are not alone.

Travelers: Travel sounds so exciting to those of us who are home-bound in one place. Why not share your trips to other states or exotic places outside the USA with those who can only daydream about it? Indicate the most special "Must See" places you've visited for those who are considering either extensive travel or short visits (vacations). Did you travel by car? RV? bus? train? plane? boat or ship?

RV Travelers: Many people choose RVs for their travel exploration during retirement. We'd especially like to hear from those who travel in RVs either as their sole home, or for vacations, or as "snowbirds" who opt for warmer pastures in lieu of the cold northern winters. (Also, see the Snowbirds web page.)

If you have any good tips about preparing to purchase an RV or to make a first trip in an RV, let your classmates know. For example, is it a good idea to first rent an RV before buying one? We'd also like to hear from those who use RVs or trailers primarily for vacation purposes.

Reunion Caravan: Hm-m-m. I wonder if it might be fun to have some sort of "BHS-57 Reunion Caravan" thing for out-of-state classmates on their way to the 50th Reunion in 2007. Maybe some people with cars could join the caravan as it passes through their area. Any thoughts on this? Those who travel with their computers can keep in touch with the others via email, if they want to take a side trip, and then catch up or wait a bit in a rest area along the highway before rejoining the caravan if it's behind them.

Other Web Sites: If you know of any web sites that provide any sort of RV info or retirement information to the general public, please send that URL info to Marilyn, so a list of such web sites can be included in this section and/or in the Snowbirds section, as appropriate. (There are a multitude of good books on retirement in any bookstore, so books won't be listed here.)
